Logistics provider Owens Road Services has opened its own VOSA-approved Authorised Testing Facility (ATF), at its Riverside depot in Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, following the closure of VOSA’s own test station in Ammanford on 15 March.

Said managing director Huw Owen at the 4 March opening: “We chose our Riverside Depot in Llangennech as the location as it is ideal for the catchment area for both HGV and PSV operators… situated less than one mile off junction 48 of the M4. The site itself is well serviced with good access routes and ample on-site parking.”

The facility initially will be open from 8am to 4pm, three days a week, up until the end of March, with testing five days a week from 2 April.

The official opening of the ATF was carried out by Llanelli MP Nia Griffith, who praised Owens for taking the initiative in its new venture.

In his speech Owen took the opportunity to thank Roger Cox of Commercial Garage Equipment, for supplying the specialist equipment for the ATF, whilst similar thanks were offered to Bradbury Equipment for its vital contribution. He also thanked Owens’ personnel for enabling the company to meet the deadlines and launch the ATF in such a short period of time.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the local community, Owens invited pupils from the local school to visit the ATF premises to showcase the site, and discuss with the teachers and children the important role the haulage industry plays in everyday life. There was also a discussion around general road safety and how to stay safe around lorries. The 400 children who took part were kitted out in high-visibility vests sponsored jointly by Owens and Bradbury Equipment.

ATF manager Ian Jarman said of the new facility: “This is a significant investment by the company and we aim to provide a high class service here, which hopefully will maintain and enhance the reputation Owens has within the industry sector.”
