Cartwright trailers help Hermes deliver improved fuel consumption

Hermes2Delivery giant Hermes has recently ordered 300 Fastback trailers from Cartwright. The new 13.6m trailers are part of a fleet replacement programme and have been selected to improve fuel consumption, reliability and help reduce Hermes’ carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

The trailers are being delivered to Hermes in two stages. They will be used for the collection of customer parcels into the Hermes hubs, as well as for the trunking operation between these locations and its nationwide depot network. Hermes, which is currently increasing its national network of new depots and hubs, is targeting a fuel economy improvement of between 5 and 8 per cent.

Hermes fleet services manager Rob Elmore said: “We have undergone considerable growth in the past 12 months, so we need to have the necessary infrastructure and logistical capabilities in place. The trailer investment will not only ensure we possess the capacity to handle parcel volumes now and in the future, but also help reduce operating costs and minimise the impact of our operation on the environment.”
