bridgestoneappBridgestone UK says a tyre monitoring app it has developed is now being deployed in other European markets and further afield, having “revolutionised” the company’s sales process since its introduction in 2012.

The ‘Challenge’ app, which was created by RNF Digital to assist the Bridgestone sales team, works by calculating the true cost of tyres over time. It shares performance data with all other users, before providing performance comparisons against competitors’ tyres – all on the user’s tablet.

Bridgestone’s product and marketing manager Andy Mathias said: “We are proud of our innovative use of technology to help serve our customers and sales force.

“The application that we developed in the UK is now being used across Europe and is even being trialled in North and South America.”

Users can wirelessly synchronise their device with a centralised server, whereupon the sales representative’s data is uploaded. At the same time, data captured by other representatives is downloaded to the device.

The application then has at its disposal a significant body of globally sourced data, from which highly dependable statistics can be derived, Bridgestone says – allowing a tyre’s relative performance to be objectively determined and an informed recommendation made.

By sharing data in this manner, the app effectively creates a ‘crowdsourcing’ experience, where users are mutually benefiting from data being collated from various locations across the globe. This means data need no longer be generated at the office before being presented to clients, and can instead be created and discussed immediately with the customer.

The app also provides Bridgestone with a wealth of previously unobtainable management information, the company adds – not only in terms of how its own tyres are performing, but also as regards how they are performing against competitors.
