WABCO workshop tool helps detect air pressure leakage

wabcoleakdetectorVehicle technology specialist WABCO has developed an Ultrasonic Leakage Detector, designed to help workshops reduce repair times through improved leak detection.

Eliminating leaks from air pressure systems is a must for vehicle fleets, WABCO says, claiming that having fully sealed brake and suspension systems can cut the energy use of the compressor by as much as 30 per cent.

WABCO’s Leakage Detector is claimed to dramatically reduce the amount of time a vehicle spends in the maintenance bay, as well as spotting leaks that older methods overlook.

A flexible ultrasonic sensor reaches those inaccessible parts of the pressure system that leakage sprays or soapy water have always found hard to reach. The operator wears isolating headphones that provide sharp detection in even the noisiest environments, meaning leaks missed by spray tests are picked up

With the exception of battery-charging, the system is maintenance-free, and avoids the problems of corrosive residues being left on the vehicle, or any health and safety risks to workshop operators.

The system is widely used in safety-conscious industries such as aerospace, chemical engineering and pharmaceuticals, WABCO claims, adding that the standalone system is intuitive to use and requires very little training.
