Isuzu Motors has appointed a managing director designate at its Isuzu Truck UK subsidiary in preparation for the departure of Nikki King, who is retiring at the end of October. Pete Murphy (pictured), currently head of ITUK’s national fleet division, will work with Ms King until her departure.

He joined ITUK from Lex Transfleet as a fleet sales executive in 1998 and is one of the company’s longest serving employees. “I would like to state how very honoured, hugely excited and more than a little terrified I am, at the faith Isuzu Motors and Nikki, the most inspirational leader I have ever met, have shown by appointing me in this new role,” he said.

King will continue to have some involvement with the company post-retirement. She said: “I am absolutely delighted with Pete’s appointment and cannot think of anyone better to grow the company and keep its very special culture. In the time leading up to my retirement, and subsequently in my new role as Honorary Chairman, I will do everything I can to help Pete in his new position. I am really looking forward to working closely with him.”

Yuki Murata, chairman of ITUK and Isuzu Europe, said: “This is the most important decision we have made since ITUK became a wholly owned subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Ltd earlier this year.

“However, after some months’ evaluation, we are confident we have made the right decision and are pleased to see Pete in his new role, whilst I do regret seeing my friend Nikki go. Having said that, she will still be around and in touch with us all. Nikki has been a legend for Isuzu and I want to take this opportunity to thank her for all she has done for us and all she will still do for us.”
