jostdmaJost UK has launched a new SDR roof diffuser, which it says can significantly reduce air turbulence and improve fuel economy for fleet operators.

The airflow system is said to be highly efficient, and can be installed on any design of trailer, including refrigerated, box and curtain siders, where it reduces the air turbulence at the rear of the vehicle.

By reducing the drag created by turbulent air flow, the Jost SDR diffuser can deliver substantial fuel savings of up to four per cent, the company says, as verified in extensive field tests by vehicle manufacturers and transport companies.

Said the company: “Aside from the considerable fuel savings, which correspond to respective reductions in CO2 emissions, the Jost SDR diffuser also makes further improvements during wet conditions by reducing dirt build-up on the rear of the vehicle and also improving the driving conditions for vehicles travelling behind the trailer as less spray is generated by vehicles fitted with the diffuser.

“The patented, aerodynamic airflow system can be installed as an after-market accessory to a wide range of trailers and is maintenance-free following installation. In addition, it can be painted to match the company livery to give a seamless appearance to the trailer.

“Once in place, the Jost SDR diffuser can deliver up to 1.4 litres per 100km in fuel savings, which equates to 2,100 litres saved per year (based on an annual distance of 150,000km, depending on factors such as driving speed, tyres, route profile, etc).”

Mike Johnson, sales and marketing director of Jost UK,added: “Jost UK has developed this and many other class-leading products for the road haulage industry, including fifth wheel couplings, landing gear and on-vehicle hydraulic systems. The Jost product range is continuing to expand and is available from a single source providing value and quality with reduced maintenance and running costs.”
