Mahle airs cabin filter replacement advice

mahle1Cabin air filter provider Mahle Aftermarket has issued guidance for workshops advocating the importance of regular filter replacement, including during the winter months – and in particular for commercial vehicles, given the increased airflow through the cab.

“Although service workshops tend to recommend cabin filter replacement at springtime, what is often underestimated is that pollen and pollutants that become deposited in the filter during summer months only become really noticeable in winter, with fogged windows, decreased heater performance and unpleasant odours among the most obvious symptoms,” said the company.

“During an hour-long drive, up to 100,000 litres of air is passed through the passenger compartment, and in a commercial vehicle, this can rise to as much as 540,000 litres. All this air contains pollen, dust, soot, smoke, tyre and brake abrasion dust, apart from the significant health hazards created by ozone, gases, benzene and sulphur compounds drawn into the ventilation system.

“That is why regular cabin filter replacement, which will ensure that these harmful pollutions are kept well away from the passenger compartment, should be considered a must at any time of year.”

The firm added: “If workshops struggle to convince customers of the wisdom of a cabin filter change, Mahle Aftermarket’s advice is to simply show the customer the contamination captured by an old cabin filter, after which, they will need little convincing.”
