quartix_croppedVehicle tracking systems supplier Quartix has agreed a deal with dashboard camera manufacturer Nextbase, which it says will protect its customers on the road as well as helping to drive down insurance costs.

All Quartix customers purchasing the InfoPlus or Corporate tracking packages will now receive a Nextbase 312GW Dash Cam.

The 312GW – which was recently rated Best Buy by independent consumer goods and services guide Which? – features inbuilt Wi-Fi, allowing footage to be shared instantly through the Nextbase smartphone app.

The HD 1080p camera also features a 2.7 LED screen, six-layer glass lens, exclusive magnetic powered Click&Go Mount, and an inbuilt G-Sensor to automatically detect accidents and lock important video files.

Over the past 15 years Quartix has supplied telematics solutions to both the fleet and insurance markets – with more than 8,000 fleet customers and 12 major insurance brands among its customers.

Recent developments such as the Safe Speed Database have been created to promote safety and provide in-depth analysis in an accident situation, the company says.

By recording actual speed data from its base of more than 60,000 commercial vehicles in the UK, Quartix matches vehicle data points to 2.6 million roads in the country, resulting in a database of more than 1 million speed distributions, of statistical significance.

Following its launch in 2012, the Safe Speed Database was made available to fleet customers as a training and monitoring tool, allowing them to compare their drivers’ speeds for each data point against the speed distribution of other road users at that location.

The Safe Speed data became an integral part of the Quartix driver scoring system for risk assessment, with the capacity to score every movement event. The database is also available to the firm’s insurance and fleet customers.

“We have added significant safety monitoring features over the years, our award-winning Safe Speed Database is groundbreaking,” said Quartix director Andy Kirk.

“It’s a logical extension to partner with the UK’s leading supplier of dash cams to further improve the safety of the mobile workforce.”

Richard Browning, director at Nextbase, added: “Both Nextbase and Quartix are committed to driving down the high costs of motor insurance, and most importantly, helping British motorists stay safe on the roads.

“Data is becoming more and more crucial in today’s world and the marriage of our dash cam footage and Quartix’s tracking data ensures that motorists can unequivocally prove that an accident on the road wasn’t their fault.”

Further features of the Quartix system include management key performance indicator ‘dashboards’; driving style reports; fleet utilisation and capacity reports; online and emailed timesheets; comprehensive vehicle tracking reports; geofencing and alerts by email and text; and speeding/idling data.
