unipartUnipart Autoparts TTC has announced that its British Touring Car Clone has successfully completed its run to Maranello, Italy and back, carrying the Transport Operator brand alongside many others in support of BEN, the automotive industry charity.

Unipart Autoparts TTC  had campaigned with its British Touring Car Clone around the UK for  two months prior to the commencement of the Bangers 4 BEN event, which took place between 8-11 October. The route took the 17-year-old £400 Toyota Avensis from Cowley in Oxford to Maranello and back, covering 1994 miles and six countries over the four-day period.

“Come sun, torrential rain, snow, French autoroute or Swiss Alpine mountain pass, the Unipart Autoparts TTC British Touring Car Clone didn’t miss a beat and just ate the miles,” said the company.

“Cruising the autoroutes at a constant legal 80mph or first-gear hairpins up a mountain pass, the Toyota Avensis just  glided along.”

The event, which was sponsored by Transport Operator alongside numerous other key industry brands, helped Unipart Autoparts raise £25,570 for BEN, an event record.

After setting out from Calais – with competitors including Jurassic Park, Scooby-Doo, Batman and Pokémon-themed cars – the Unipart Autoparts TTC team took to the French autoroute for the journey down to Colmar. From there, the car crossed the Swiss border, its route incorporating the 10-mile-long Gotthard tunnel, before pressing on past Milan to Maranello.

The return route incorporated the Furka Pass, a key setting of James Bond film Goldfinger, and more spectacular mountain scenery as it crossed the Alps. The team then elected to travel up through Luxembourg through Flanders Belgium, a route recommended by a fellow entrant, before travelling onward to Calais, Dover and back to Cowley.
