Licence Check: minimise driver risk ahead of Black Friday
With Black Friday just over a week away, fleet managers need to be extra vigilant with driver compliance to ensure temporary hires and delivery staff are qualified to be on the road, Licence Check Ltd has warned.
The company, whose product portfolio includes the DAVIS cloud software solution for driver and vehicle compliance management, cites recent figures from the Department for Transport showing that the estimated total value for all reported and unreported road accidents in 2016 was some £36 billion.
Statistically, one in four accidents will have occurred whilst people were driving for work related purposes, the firm says, with their employer suffering both direct costs and indirect costs, such as insurance excesses, administrative overheads and lost productivity.
Finding ways to mitigate this unwanted cost should be a matter of priority for organisations and insurers, Licence Check contends; and one way to do this is to identify those drivers who are most at risk of involvement in accidents and then find ways to manage this risk to a more acceptable level.
According to Licence Check, the problem with relying on licence checking alone, is that it doesn’t address those drivers that may present a risk, but have yet to be convicted.
