Transport and warehousing provider Owens Group has invested in equipment from vehicle technology group Continental to equip its brand new workshop.
Owens Group started out in Llanelli, South Wales, with one van in 1972 – and now operates a fleet of 780 vehicles from 10 strategic locations across the UK.
The company’s existing tachograph centre, established in 2006, needed major investment in order to calibrate smart tachographs. The current tachograph centre building was required for other business purposes; while at the same time a more recently-built authorised testing facility (ATF), located one mile off junction 48 of the M4, was seeing heavy use, so a second brake tester was required as a support product.
Continental supplied the BM14200 brake tester with tachograph adaptation and a VDO Workshop Tablet with a 10-metre pit, which was installed at the ATF. This was installed during a half-day shutdown at the premises, and has allowed Owens to consolidate of all its testing services on one site.
Ian Jarman, ATF and tachograph centre manager, commented: “It is always good to get the full range of products and support from one supplier, making it far simpler to deal with one point of contact for all our needs.
“The local regional manager for Continental assisted us greatly, with face-to-face and telephone support when required. The products supplied were of extremely high quality and I am certain will last many years in our workshop.
“As a company we believe in buying the best products wherever possible, with strong support from the company that understands the needs of the business.”
The Owens site is now up and running, ready for brake testing, digital and smart tachograph installation and calibration.
