Among the recent additions to Prometeon Tyre Group UK’s Pirelli portfolio is the MC:01 e-Urban range of bespoke tyres for electric buses.

The new tyres are designed to handle the extra load capacity that is a characteristic of such vehicles, and have achieved a ‘B’ energy efficiency rating.

The MC:01 e-Urban range is said to offer the increased load capacity per axle of eight tonnes necessary to ensure electric buses run at optimum efficiency without reducing maximum passenger numbers, backed up by up to 10 per cent lower rolling resistance.

The optimised sidewall and structure design create the extra load capacity, while also enhancing tyre retreadability, says Prometeon.

The mould profile and the new tread pattern geometry are conceived to ensure great traction (taking into account the high torque ratings of electric engines) and to resist pavement shocks throughout the tyre’s entire lifespan.

The new range provides an improved level of comfort, even wear, low noise generation of 69dB(1) and excellent safety performance, the firm says. It is also marked M+S, 3PMSF, reaches ‘B’ for wet grip, delivering high performance in winter conditions, and is suitable for fitment on all axles.

The range includes 275/70R22.5, one of the first tyres launched with a 152/148J main load index; and 315/60R22.5, the first tyre featuring 156/150J main load index.

“We have succeeded in developing the new Pirelli-branded MC:01 e-Urban, with such outstanding performance thanks to the latest Prometeon technology innovations, applied to tread pattern, structure and compound,” said Alexandre Bregantim, Prometeon chief technical officer.

“With this new product, Prometeon stands on the frontline on sustainability issues and zero-emission transport without compromise on safety and operation cost savings.”
