Friendberry reflects on changing training landscape

Training provider Friendberry Ltd has highlighted how its services have changed and adapted to the ongoing public health situation, with courses available in both classroom and online contexts.

“Relatively recently we were able to offer the multichoice [Operator] CPC exam online as we are a registered centre. Sadly, the online exam has been withdrawn, which in this time of Covid is sad because candidates could get ahead while furloughed – if only in part,” the company reported.

“Nevertheless, home study is a good bet now, as it can all be done at home with Zoom assistance or WhatsApp to give confidence,” it said.

“When the next exam happens, hopefully on 11th September, candidates can either just go ahead and sit – or convert to the classroom course if they need extra support.”

Meanwhile, Friendberry has been taking special measures to allow on-site training to continue.

“We are all set up with distancing space and screens. There are very strict rules. All candidates must bring all their own toiletry requirements, refreshments and wear masks. But it is possible to run courses nevertheless,” the firm continued.

“The traffic commissioner is still demanding that operators are up to date with legislation. CPC 2 day refresher courses and 1 day OLAT (Operator Licence Awareness Courses) are running fully now, both remotely (Zoom) and in the classroom.

“ADR is also running but with limited numbers. The unfortunate consequence is that costs must rise because of less candidates – but at least the ADR qualification can be gained now. We also offer Class1 Explosives and Class 7 Radioactives.

“Driver CPC is going ahead. Candidates need a laptop with camera. The lecturer will welcome them to Zoom with a password. From then on it is a virtual classroom. The required 7-hour ‘days’ may well be over two 3 ½ hr sessions on succeeding days, to get over the attention difficulties.

“DGSA can be all home study with audio or video back up.”
