New Fassi technology combats cabin collisions

Crane manufacturer Fassi has developed a new Cabin Collision Detection (CCD) system, which is designed to safeguard against collisions between the crane boom and the cab of the truck.

The CCD system is said to offer a further guarantee of safety and operational efficiency, and to protect the integrity of the vehicle. It enables control of the movement of the main and secondary booms where there is a risk of invading the‘protection zone’ surrounding the truck cabin.

The system uses position sensors to control the movement of the crane arms, detecting the distance from the truck cabin and automatically blocking them when they come too close.

The movement of the column is controlled by rotation sensors, which suspend operations, thus avoiding collisions. This guarantees the safe use of the crane, says Fassi, automatically inhibiting all potentially dangerous movements of the main and secondary arms.

Fassi, which has reached its 55th anniversary this year, promises to make sustainability its focus over the next decade.

“The decade that is coming to an end has been particularly intense; the slogan ‘Leader in Innovation’ has marked the direction we have followed in all our business decisions, from the research of new systems to the development of electronics,” said Giovanni Fassi, president of Fassi Gru – pledging that continued innovation would be combined with sustainability “to guarantee a future for the next generations and our planet”.

The company has also marked the anniversary with a special tribute to Mr Franco Fassi, founder of Fassi Gru, who passed away suddenly last August.

“He was a true pioneer who set an example of honesty and seriousness throughout his life and career,” said the firm.
