Pairs a plus for CV bulbs, says Randstad

Commercial vehicle lighting supplier Randstad has issued guidance for fleets on how they can optimise bulb procurement and replacement procedures.

“Changing bulbs in pairs and using a good quality, long-life product is always the best option for commercial vehicle fleets,” advised Martin Dowd, managing director at Randstad.

“To gain access to the lighting system or even bringing the vehicle into a workshop involves some downtime – and so for the small amount of cost involved, changing in pairs also reduces future downtime.”

A vehicle workshop should also know the change cycle for bulbs, contends Martin, so that they can be changed when bringing in for other service routines.

“If keeping a vehicle in operation and on the road is key to its economic viability, changing the small price tag items is a small price to pay for efficiency,” he said.

“Although a cost driven marketplace, it is the labour cost that outweighs the product cost; reducing the number of changes should be a principal consideration. Therefore, the advice from Randstad is to fit the best and replace bulbs in pairs.”

While all bulbs in the marketplace are (or certainly should be) E-marked, says Martin, some lighting brands perform better and the bulbs will last longer.

“Randstad Ltd carries a range of 12- & 24-volt bulbs and has been supplying the commercial vehicle sector for more than 40 years,” he said.

“The company supplies product under its exclusive Classic brand and also the premium Philips brand.

“Randstad supplies complete bulb kits, made to suit any vehicle. Its LED Bulbs are durable and vibration resistant and have a longer life than standard bulbs. They give out an ultra-bright light using just a fraction of the power of a standard bulb.”
