Trailer Vision drives DVS compliance with Cycle-Safe

Among the safety technologies available from Trailer Vision is its new Direct Vision Standard (DVS)-compliant, optical detection system, Cycle-Safe.

Cycle-Safe meets the recommended requirements for an HGV Safety Permit, says the firm, as the system can differentiate between moving objects, like vulnerable road users, and static objects, like street furniture.

“Cycle-Safe utilises next-generation optical technology combining detection and vision in a single ‘smart camera’,” said Trailer Vision.

“The intelligent system provides drivers with audible alerts and visual warnings, either via a monitor and/or a separate LED/buzzer. Operators can choose whether the system is always on, or switched off above 20mph. However, it’s recommend that the system is always on, as it’s also very useful for lane change assist /blind spot warning.”

Additionally, says the firm, it is not inconceivable that the review of the Progressive Safe System planned for 2024 will call for the use of ‘intelligent’ side-detection systems like Cycle-Safe, rather than allowing the use of conventional ultrasonic side detection systems, which it says are proven to have high false alarm rates. Compared to these systems, Cycle-Safe is also simple to install, claims Trailer Vision.
