RHCV’s road to workshop success

Renault Trucks dealer RHCV has outlined some of the key factors in its strategy for achieving a successful workshop operation.

The company has been selling, leasing, servicing and repairing HGVs and LCVs across the East Midlands for four decades, and employs 140 staff across four East Midlands sites.

As an authorised dealer for Renault Trucks, RHCV provides maintenance for the manufacturer’s full range, as well as all-makes parts and servicing for commercial vehicles. The company recently added Isuzu to its Northampton site.

Its 64,000 sq ft site on Clover Nook Road in Alfreton provides support for customers across the whole of Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. RHCV has invested heavily in the Alfreton site, with £400,000 spent to increase capacity in the workshop and the addition of an authorised testing facility (ATF).

The total Alfreton team of 12 includes seven technicians and two apprentices, and is led by dealer point manager Richard Bradbury. Richard has been at RHCV for seven years, having first joined as a workshop technician.

The Alfreton workshop operates from 6am until midnight during weekdays, with reduced hours at the weekend, manned with three shifts, all designed around customer demand.

Said Richard Bradbury: “Delivering a successful workshop is a combination of four key factors. Within the workshop team itself it is all about product knowledge and good training as well as the wider quality of service, focusing on communication and teamwork.”

Richard’s role involves overseeing the whole Alfreton operation, managing the quality of work and driving improvements and efficiencies, enabling RHCV to provide the highest level of service to its customers, whether they require routine maintenance or emergency work.

“It’s important that we ensure every single part of our operation works efficiently together,” he said.

“You may have a great team of technicians but if work is not being booked in properly at the front counter, or managing customer expectation as to when their vehicle is ready, then you are not providing the best service.

“Also, quick access to any replacement parts is really important, as our main focus is on getting a vehicle back on the road as quickly as possible.”

RHCV says the quality of the work Richard’s team has delivered is already paying dividends with fleet clients. These include transport firm Dave Clarke Haulage Ltd and Bailey Construction, two local customers that the dealer says are increasing their fleets of Renault Trucks as a direct result of the quality of the RHCV workshop in Alfreton.
