Lucas Oil additives aid fleets in lockdown

As a result of their pandemic experiences, some fleet operators have been taking a creative approach to vehicle maintenance, Lucas Oil Products reports, and discovering the potential benefits of using additive technologies.

“Early in the lockdown cycle, calls to the Lucas Oil technical hotline concerned diesel engine oil and solutions to problems that might occur if vehicles were left standing for extended periods,” said Dan Morgan, director of sales and operations at Lucas Oil Products (UK).

“The danger point is the restart after a period of inactivity, the result of metal-to-metal contact after the drain down of engine oil into the sump.

“Heavy Duty Engine Oil Stabilizer is our ready-made solution because it leaves behind a thin film of lubricant long after the oil has drained away. It extends the life of the oil, can help prevent smoking and is often used ahead of an MOT.

“We supplied it to a lot of new customers. As a result, it exposed our problem-solving additives range to a broader range of customers than we would normally have expected.”

Upper Cylinder Lubricant (UCL) is a prominent product in the range, says Lucas Oil, and over in the US, it is available from almost any truckstop.

It was the answer to many enquiries throughout subsequent lockdowns, adds the firm; Dan Morgan’s theory is that engineers were forced to think about different ways to support their preventive maintenance strategies, to keep their fleets moving.

UCL cleans injectors, which restores lost power. It lubricates lift pumps and conditions the fuel, which combines to help reduce harmful emissions.

“I think it’s fair to say that the lockdown period drew attention to Lucas Oil’s problem-solving additives as real solutions. It would be nice to think that such refreshing attitudes become part of the legacy of lockdown,” he added.
