Motul expands presence in UK CV sector

Lubricant provider Motul has highlighted its increasing expansion into the UK heavy-duty sector, and outlined the benefits of its product range for commercial vehicle applications.

“If you currently drive or operate a commercial Vehicle you might not be altogether familiar with the Motul brand or its wide range of lubricants,” said Callum Goodland, Motul’s UK and Ireland country manager.

“However, if you ride a motorcycle, or exist in the high-speed world of motorsport, or you will instantly recognise the name.”

Founded in 1853 and having pioneered the first multigrade motor oil, Motul Century, in 1953, Motul brought the first semi-synthetic oil,  Motul Century 2100, to the automotive industry in 1966.

“Five years later, Motul launched 300V, the first fully synthetic motor oil onto the market, developed from its experience with Ester-based products in the aviation industry,” said Callum.

“These Motul products have defined the shape of the lubricant market ever since – whether that be car, motorbike, or commercial vehicle.

“Capitalising on its expertise to meet the constant demand for improved mechanical performance, Motul has developed a high-performance range of heavy-duty products which meet and exceed the standards demanded by industry OEMs and CV customers everywhere.

“It fully recognises the specific requirements of trucks and the range covers different generations of diesel engine, with products aimed directly to help optimise running for those who operate them.”

Motul says its Tekma premium engine oils are specially designed to reduce engine wear, improve fuel economy and prevent mechanical failure, even under the most severe operating conditions.

“Motul products naturally meet the varying compliance needs for engines – ranging from CATII through to CATVI. The range carries OE approvals from the leading manufacturers – from Renault to Mercedes, MAN to DAF, Volvo to Scania and beyond,” Callum continued.

“Whether it is fully synthetic, mineral-based or uses Motul’s Technosynthese technology, the company offers a tailored product to meet operators’ specific needs.

“The same applies to all of the other types of lubricants in its range, as Motul also has a wide range of transmission oils, hydraulic fluids, coolants and greases.

“Motul also provides a comprehensive range of maintenance products, now available to CV workshops and operators. All are designed to perform to the highest industry standards, whilst protecting vehicles on a daily basis – recognising that the vehicles are complex and valuable pieces of equipment, but also ever conscious, of course, that minimising downtime is critical.”

In Europe, Motul has been fulfilling the requirements of CV owners and operators for decades, for both running and servicing their trucks. Now the UK is coming into stronger focus for the brand, it says, to expand its presence beyond the motorbike and motorsport sectors, into the wider passenger car, classic lubricant and heavy-duty sectors.

“Those familiar with the Motul name will know its stellar reputation in competition,” said Callum.

“Motul continues to use motorsport as the development hub of its products – allowing it to design, and bring to fruition, products for specific uses and for specific engines… and to test them in the heat of competition.

“This technology then filters down and the lessons learned are applied into creating innovative products for its everyday motoring product ranges.

“Motul currently lubricates the factory Suzuki Motorbike that took Juan Mir to the MotoGP World Championship in 2020 and, on four wheels, Motul can currently boast World Endurance LMP2 Championship titles and Le Mans 24 Hours wins with United Autosports.”

Motul is also active in rally raid competition including its flagship event, the Dakar Rally, where as an official technology partner, Motul’s trucks were on hand to help competitors throughout the field.

Callum further explained: “It might come as no surprise to learn that although Motul was teamed with the victorious factory HRC Honda motorbike team on this year’s Dakar Rally, it also actually competed in the truck division – as has been the case for many years.

“Motul also has a long history of involvement in truck racing, at both national and European level. The experience we gain through Motul’s participation in motorsport always ultimately benefits the road user.”

Callum adds that, thanks to its extensive use in industry, many vehicles around the world benefit from Motul’s ‘Casted, Drilled, Filled’ philosophy.  In practical terms, this means that it provides metal working lubricants for the machining processes that transform melted metal into die casted metal structures and then for the milling and drilling processes that transform the metal into the finished parts that go to make up a vehicle.

“Finally, Motul also provides the lubricants that help deliver the best performance when the vehicle is in use,” he added.

“Therefore, from manufacture through to running the finished product, Motul lubricates every phase.”
