VL Test Systems (VLT) supplies a range of roller brake testing equipment suitable for commercial vehicle applications, which is designed, developed and manufactured at its purpose-built factory in the Netherlands. This, the firm says, allows it to ensure that quality is always to the highest standards and that machine development is in line with the advances in technology.

Throughout all UK lockdowns, VLT has remained open, with the same business hours, supporting the transport industry, emergency services and Ministry of Defence.

“There has been an extension on the testing of HGV and other vehicles, but they still have to be roadworthy,” the company points out.T

“Our customers – like Scania, Tesco, Gist, Volvo, Sainsbury, Western Power and hundreds of commercial operators – have all benefited from our engineers helping to keep their vehicles on the road in these unprecedented times.”

In Autumn 2020, the company won a multimillion pound order from a national retailer.

“This upgrade to their VLT equipment enables them to ensure they have the business continuity to keep their HGVs, trailers and transport operation running at peak, safest and optimal levels,” said the firm.

“Needless to say they were so delighted with our equipment first time around they came back to us for a second time.”

VLT emphasises the credentials of its team in going the extra mile to help customers: its own factory-trained team of service engineers is located throughout the UK, to ensure servicing and calibration of brake testers and other equipment is completed in a timely manner and to the high standards. The company also has its own roller brake installation team, and its own lorry for deliveries.

“The engineers, headquarters staff, sales team and managers have not missed a beat during this national emergency, enhancing our reputation as the ‘go-to team’ when needed,” the firm said.

“VLT have had to change parts of its marketing and sales strategy with exhibitions and shows being cancelled. Our customers would be pleased to hear that our focus is to ensure that we still offer a first-rate sales experience…

“VLT plans to come out of the Covid-19 crisis as strong as it went into it.”

The company’s extensive range of roller brake testers allows for the professional testing of HGVs, LGVs, vans, cranes, buses and rescue vehicles in garages, workshops and authorised testing facilities (ATFs).

The roller brake testers are fully computerised, bi-directional, counter-rotational, feature roller locking, and come complete with the DVSA database as well as lifetime updates of this.

The roller brake testers are supplied standard as one or two-man operation, with one-man operation achieved via the standard remote control or the Tough Book option. Sub-frames and roller castings are all hot dipped galvanised for increased durability and quality.

As a result, VLT offers a lifetime warranty on the rollers, as well as providing a five-year warranty on the brake testing motor and gearbox.

VLT also supplies a variety of additional garage and test equipment including headlight beam testers, diesel smoke meters, wireless wheel play detectors, axle load simulators, pit Jacks and all other ATF-required equipment and tools.

“VLT’s experienced team can also assist with the planning and installation of your ATF, including assisting you in obtaining the necessary DVSA approvals and sign off,” the company added.

In addition to its longstanding relationship with the DVSA, VLT’s key roller brake customers include the likes of MC Truck, TIP Trailers, Asda, Gist, Biffa, Scania, Volvo and Stagecoach. The company also works with the Ministry of Defence, servicing roller brake testers and other test equipment at many of its UK bases, as well as in overseas locations such as Afghanistan, Canada, Gibraltar and the Falklands.
