Krone keeps loads secure with Multi Safe

Trailer manufacturer Krone has explained how its Multi Safe system can help operators ensure loads remain in place during transit, thereby ensuring the safety of employees and the public and fulfilling legal responsibilities.

The challenge was to find a universal mechanism which could provide the basis of a load-securing system with multiple load permutations, says Krone – for example, paper rolls, steel coils, palleted beverages, kegs, tubing, sheet metal and miscellaneous individual panels.

The Multi Safe system is said to enable a dramatic increase in load securing permutations, with the flexibility to allow multiple load configurations on the same trailer.

Further claimed advantages of the modular, lightweight system include high strength for increased dependability and safety, increased ease of handling and safety for drivers and loaders, increased loading speed, and improved economic efficiency.

Components include a patented Multi Lock Side Rave, supplied with 126 strapping points on each side of the vehicle which provides in excess of 3,000 options of securing the load.

Each of these strapping points is two tons, with maximum permissible load of eight tons over a one-metre length, and is easily accessible with or without the curtains opened, says Krone. In addition to this, all components are KTL coated, providing a 10-year rust perforation warranty.

Further elements include the Krone Multi Block Loading Beam, a transverse loading option. It has 22 load securing points positioned on the load floor transversely and is locked into the Multi Lock Side rave.

The certified eight-ton Multi Wall system offers an additional wall in the trailer, which can be positioned along its length to suit the load. The plug-in uprights are fixed into the Multi Block shoe which in turn is fixed in to the Multi Lock Side Rave; the uprights are secured using standard load securing straps at 45 degrees to the wall.

The Multi Reel system has been specially developed for securing awkward cable reels or rolls of paper, and comprises adaptor plates, wedges and stops.

To prevent movement of paper rolls in transit, the Multi Block paper system has been developed using the Multi Lock/Multi block combination. Paper rolls can be fixed horizontally with minimum effort and maximum load security.

In contrast to welded components, the Multi Screw screwable pallet stop can be quickly and easily fitted or removed from the Multi Lock Side Rave, making them more efficient, safer and more mobile, says Krone.

The Multi Lash screwable lashing rings allow the universal safe strapping of all hooks, the company adds. The flexible strapping eyes make it possible to put a securing strap into the Multi Lock Side rave profile at just the right angle to ensure straps are flat and offering maximum load security.

A chain adaptor option provides a solution for all other types of hooks or spansets as well as chains, and by using two of the Multi Lock side rave lashing points the strapping capability is doubled to four tons, allowing it to be used anywhere on the trailer.

A captive strapping system minimises loss of straps ensuring correct numbers of straps are available to securely load the trailer.

Meanwhile, a strap retainer allows pre-setting of load straps prior to loading, removing the need for the driver to throw the straps over high loads or climb onto a loaded trailer. Straps are easily removed by gently pulling down onto the load.

Finally, the Multi Fix system secures pipes, round steel, plate steel or any other challenging shaped items. It is said to offer maximum security in the minimum of time, providing a solution whatever the shape of the load.

“Operators can ensure safe loading, safe transit and safe unloading thereby protecting their employees and the public at large,” said Krone in summary.

“All load types are protected from damage caused by movement during transit. Damage during loading and unloading is minimised. Theft is reduced owing to more secure fixing of loads to the vehicle…

“The Multi Safe System enables operators to carry mixed loads in the same vehicle or trailer.

“A single trailer can be adapted to carry a cross-section of loads, thus negating the requirement for additional investment to suit each business opportunity. One trailer fits all. Empty running is minimised and profitability increased…

“Each module of the Multi Safe System can be quickly attached and the load safely secured. One-man, ease of operation keeps labour costs down and increases turnaround speed.”

Users include Bowker Transport, whose managing director Bill Bowker said: “The Krone multi lock side rave load securing system is probably the most flexible and safest we have seen.”

David Kay of K Transport Services commented: “The unique anchorage system is so flexible, we can carry all types of mixed steel loads, ensure a diverse and efficient service for our customer and make empty return loads a thing of the past.”

Peter Jones of Sunhill Transport said: “Reduced empty miles, easier loading and improved safety. All round, a valued asset for our business.”

Bob Milton, managing director of Tap Freight, added: “Krone’s unique load security features are very important in the hazardous chemical sector.”
