Fresh-faced Fuso Canter unveiled

A new generation of Fuso Canter lightweight trucks is now on sale.

Marketed and supported by Mercedes-Benz truck dealers in the UK, the Japanese-designed and Portuguese-built Canter covers four gross weights from 3.5 to 8.55 tonnes. For the first time, the 3.5-tonne version is available with a narrow 1.7-metre wide cab alongside the two-metre version. The new optional narrow cab is dubbed the S (for standard), while the wide cab (which is in fact standard on the rest of the range) is badged as the C (for comfort).

A new exhaust system conforms to Euro VI E standards, but engine outputs remain as before.

All cabs feature new ‘black-belt’ styling, and offer LED lamps as an option.

A safety feature carried over from Mercedes heavy trucks is now available on the Canter. Sideguard Assist radar detects moving persons on the truck’s nearside, when the left-hand indicator is activated.

Increased flexibility for bodybuilders is highlighted, with a wheelbase of 3,400mm for the 3S models new to the UK.

Production starts at the year end.
