VPG Onboard Weighing, a brand of Vishay Precision Group, Inc., has announced that its Bradford, UK facility has attained the IATF16949:2016 registration for automotive quality management systems through the British Standards Institution.

The registration has strengthened the existing ISO9001:2015 quality management system to meet automotive original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) requirements, the firm says, and forms part of its strategy to continuously improve existing aftermarket product quality while addressing the stringent OEM market needs.

OEM partners are now able to incorporate VPG Onboard Weighing product directly into their vehicle production with confidence, it says, and without the need for lengthy and costly qualification auditing.

“The market for commercial vehicles is rapidly expanding globally, and our technologies bring many benefits to achieve the safety, efficiency and environmental objectives that are driving automotive industry developments,” said managing director Jon Jackson.

“In addition, the recently adopted EU legislation regarding vehicle weight regulations and enforcement is leading fleet operators to adopt aftermarket or OEM solutions to comply with these regulations.”

VPG Onboard Weighing’s overload protection systems use unique solid-state sensor technology that support the majority of customers’ needs. Due to the flexibility of these sensors and VPG Systems UK Ltd’s research capabilities, new applications in electric and autonomous vehicles are enabled, the firm says.

Current systems support vans to trucks without limitation to weight or the number of axles. These systems, which provide accuracy to legal-for-trade classified levels throughout the payload, have been upgraded to support wireless operations with mobile devices and extensive telematics support.

New product versions with further improvements are scheduled for release in 2022.

“As an OEM supplier we are always looking to expand our customer base with those who want to bring added value to their vehicles by incorporating one of our proven systems,” added Richard Collins, sales and marketing director.
