VWS weighs in with connected solutions

Equipment provider Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) has outlined some of its most recent product developments for the commercial vehicle sector.

The company works with businesses that operate a variety of vehicle types, considering their activities, connectivity requirements and integration with other systems in order to provide weighing systems that meet their needs.

Over the past few years, VWS has been actively developing a range of connected solutions.

“All our weighing systems now have live connectivity, back to our VWS Live webs portal,” explained Trevor Lloyd-Evans, operations director at VWS.

“This development enables our customers to access their weighing data when and where they need it. Our WiFi Weighing solution provides live transactional data that can now be viewed either on a mobile or tablet through the VWS Live app. It enables our customers and their operators to access the information they need, using their own devices, which is not only more user-friendly, but it also reduces installation time and costs.”

He continued: “The Wi-Fi Indicator actively monitors real-time diagnostics, which are then relayed back to the VWS Service Department, providing information for analysis, future product development and the provision of VWS Smart Service, where we proactively and remotely manage the health of the vehicle’s weighing system.

“The Wi-Fi Indicator no longer needs to be installed inside the vehicle, simplifying the installation process. The vehicle weight is visible from outside the cab and operations can run more smoothly as shovel loaders, drivers and operators have access to the same information. The system also has additional messaging features to help improve communications.”

Tipper operators have shown a lot of interest in this new development, says Trevor.

“There are many reasons to choose wireless weighing, but most of our customers comment on the enhanced fleet productivity and profitability, due to the ability to identify optimum yield. A vehicle running at optimum yield means that it is utilising its complete carrying capacity, without being overloaded or underloaded, resulting in all activity being profitable.

“Furthermore, our system provides real-time transactions of loading and unloading activity, and also highlights live vehicle movements via our VWS Live application, which allows operators full visibility of what is going on and where.”

Meanwhile, the company’s VOPS2 vehicle overloading solution is being used by businesses running van fleets to manage compliance. It can be fitted to most types/categories of vehicles, whether the suspension is steel, air or spring.

“The VOPS2 vehicle overload protection system is an extremely reliable enclosed measurement system that does not rely on springs or transducers,” said Trevor.

“We are happy to retrofit or work with body builders and truck manufacturers to incorporate our VOPS2 equipment into the build, if required, and we offer calibration check services to maintain the accuracy of the system.

“The status of the vehicle’s loading can be viewed via an in-cab indicator, displaying a percentage of load on front and rear axles and when a VWS Telematics modem is fitted, the data can also be viewed live or retrospectively in the VWS Live web portal. “

As an alternative to fitting a VWS Telematics modem, the company offers a standard interface, which allows third party telematics providers to access the weighing data on request, providing the customer with a single interface for their telematics and weighing data.
