sparDundee-based food wholesaler and retailer, CJ Lang & Son, has put to the road a new, 19-strong MAN fleet for its long-established contract of supplying food and consumables to the Spar convenience store chain.

16 new TGS 26.360 6×2 drawbar units and three TGS 26.440 6×2 tractor units are already in operation, joining the existing fleet and delivering around 1,000 loads weekly to over 300 Spar stores throughout Scotland.

The new fleet is equipped with MAN Fleet Management packages, featuring the web-based MAN EcoStyle driver monitoring system.

“MAN’s fleet management system is excellent,” said distribution director, John Leitch. “We have used it on our MAN chassis for the last 12 years, and, over time, have seen it mature into a well-developed, user-friendly and, ultimately, invaluable piece of technology.

“When you acquire new vehicles you need both a product and an aftersales structure that you can trust. MAN has excelled on both counts. Sure, mechanical problems sometimes occur, but it’s how they are dealt with that counts, and MAN Truck & Bus Fife in Halbeath always step up to the plate. Weekly conference calls with MAN provide operational benefits, too.”

Leitch added: “We didn’t simply replace MANs for MANs with no due process. We took time to look at all the leading manufacturer’s offerings; we compiled a detailed matrix comparison, and made our selection on a pragmatic basis as well as previous experience.”

Trading for over 90 years, CJ Lang services over 300 Spar stores throughout Scotland from its 14.5 acre distribution site incorporating ambient storage, and a purpose-built chilled and frozen depot, both in Dundee.
