CV Show: SmartWitness to unveil VanProtect camera solution

Vehicle camera specialist SmartWitness will be explaining to CV Show-goers how technology first developed for heavy trucks can now be applied to light commercials, thanks to work it has done with insurers and telematics providers.

VanProtect combines a forward-facing camera and infrared rear camera with an in-cab monitor to form an incident recorder and reversing aid. Moving images of incidents can be recorded on the camera or transmitted to the operator via the Internet.

The primary goals of the system are to protect the driver from staged accidents and to provide a reversing aid to reduce the number of minor bumps in urban operations. The solution is built on the KP1 camera, with 1080 HD footage across a 170-degree range.
