Brake checks made easier with Bowmonk

Testing equipment provider Bowmonk, which incorporates Tapley Instrumentation, has explained how its BrakeCheck decelerometer product helps reduce the administration and potential for error associated with making manual records of brake efficiency tests.

“The renowned Tapley meter has been in existence since the mid-1920s and is still widely used in vehicle testing stations across the UK and in repair workshops around the globe,” said the company.

“This popular workshop tool is still approved for performing a decelerometer test. However, more recently, accountability is prevalent, with an increased requirement to provide data, information and to be able to retain this information for archival purposes.”

With the mechanical decelerometer test, the tester would have to physically write the efficiency value on a report and sign it off, points out Bowmonk, leaving room for possible error and putting the onus on the tester.

“Using an electronic decelerometer like the DVSA-approved BrakeCheck, for the same method of testing, takes away the requirement for manually writing the efficiency value by printing off the braking efficiency and percentage of braking imbalance,” said the firm.

“Now the tester only has to sign the test printout to confirm he has carried out the test.

“The values are already recorded from within the unit and transported to the infrared printer. The printout can then be stapled to the inspection sheet.”

In addition to the supply of BrakeCheck decelerometers, Bowmonk also offers a comprehensive training session to ensure testing personnel are fully conversant in the correct use of the product.

Following the session, each delegate is awarded with a Certificate of Competence.
