Electro-Wind rectifiers transform trailer power

Electro-Wind specialises in direct current (DC) rectifiers specifically for use in the logistics industry, including for use with trailers.

The company’s power supply units provide the required DC supply to enable the use of moving double-deck and tail lifts when unaccompanied by a shunter or tractor unit – with advantages including fuel savings and environmental benefits.

“We manufacture both air and oiled cooled transformer rectifier units that transform and convert an AC current derived from a single or three-phase mains supply to a higher or lower DC voltage, providing a power supply solution for equipment designed to operate from a DC power supply,” said Electro-Wind.

“Our DC rectifiers are specifically developed to provide a power supply solution for a wide and varied range of applications, such as industrial automation, automotive, rail, military, marine, motorhome and caravan sectors.”

Electro-Wind units provide 24V at the connector, though higher voltages can be specified. No tractor unit, battery trolleys or recharging downtime are required, and the units are said to provide an ecological power solution to allow operators to unload trailers at any time.

All the company’s DC power supplies can be specified with a range of bespoke options, including an upgrade to existing PSU units, control gear to provide extra operator safety, and mobile units on lockable wheels which are said to be particularly useful in a flexible service area.

Fixed installation units are also available which can be floor or wall-mounted, preferential in larger logistics hubs; and units can supply power to single or multiple bays.

DC Extension leads, connectors and junction boxes are available. Leads can be made to the required length fitting, with a choice of connectors.

The company has fulfilled contracts with companies such as Marks & Spencer, Argos, TJ Morris, WHSmith and Next. A hire unit is available for demonstrations.

Electro-Wind has also launched an inspection and repair service for the products, with the upgrade of existing units also available.

“Whether it’s broken castors, switches, control gear or diodes that need replacing, we can get you back up and running in no time [with a] 24-hour repair service where needed,” said the firm.

“We can provide a hire unit to keep your busy logistics moving whilst your power supply is in for repair. Extension leads, connectors and junction boxes are always available to support your needs.”
