Haldex issues trailer EBS update advice
Trailer technology provider Haldex has issued guidance for users of its EB+ electronic braking systems upgrading to its third-generation (Gen3) system, from Gen1 or Gen2.
“The Haldex EB+ Gen1 ECU is no longer available and must now be replaced by an EB+ Gen3,” said the company.
“All EB+ Gen1 modulator valves are unaffected and continue to be available separately.”
The first step is to replace EB+ Gen1 with the EB+ Gen 3 (part number 950823008).
A bracket kit will be required for mounting the new unit, available in side (852993006E) or top (852993006H) mounting alternatives.
The correct size pipe fitting kit should then be selected, based on the spring brake pipe diameter currently on the trailer. Pipe fitting kits are available in 8mm (number SB8 MM), 10mm (SB10 MM), and 12mm (SB12 MM) variants.
“When you have the required parts, workshop installation is quick,” said Haldex.
Installation instructions can be found at the Haldex website.
For upgrades from EB+ Gen2, the company reports that a commonly asked question is how to connect to the Info Centre, since the green plug is absent on the EB+ Gen 3.
“EB+ Gen3 has two new DIAGN connectors for additional CAN functions,” explained the company.
“A kit is available for connecting Info Centre 1 to EB+ Gen3 (part no. 950800913). To connect Info Centre 2, the diagnostic cable must be replaced (part no. 814037001).
“A service bulletin with detailed information and part numbers is included in all EB+ Gen3 spare part kits.”
Additional information is also available in the Findex, also accessible via Haldex’s website.
