Dometic outlines latest AC developments
Air conditioning equipment provider Dometic has highlighted the environmental and operational benefits of its parking cooler range for commercial vehicle applications.
The company warns of the problems associated with truck drivers leaving their engines running for hours to use the air conditioner or to recharge the batteries during their rest periods.
“This is bad for the environment, and it’s also against the law,” said Dometic.
“Tons of fuel are wasted, and fleet operators pay dearly for it, plus it wears down the engine faster. A Dometic parking cooler keeps operating costs down. Equally important to fleet owners is the fact that it improves work safety and thus ensures that the driver and freight arrive safe and sound.
“Our range includes powerful self-contained air conditioners and a modular split system for tricky installation conditions.”
Combining high performance with easy installation and usage, the Dometic rooftop air conditioners for trucks are said to offer the perfect solution for in-cabin truck temperature control.
“They feature excellent cooling capabilities, energy efficiency and quiet operation – and there are versions to fit most cabin types, including one specifically for trucks that cannot accommodate a roof-mounted unit,” said Dometic.
Cited benefits of the truck parking cooler range include up to 12 hours of run time and low-noise, low-vibration performance when the engine is off.
“With these, you can look forward to a long, uninterrupted rest in your cab. In addition, we provide self-contained, split or under-bunk systems that are all easy to install.”
The firm says its SPX1200 range with a 53mm super-slim roof top evaporator unit for a truck’s split parking cooler provides effective 24 V stationary air conditioning, ideal for space-saving installation under spoilers or other roof-mounted structures to meet the maximum truck height given by law.
The exterior shell can be spray painted to match the cabin’s bodywork. By using the matching vehicle-specific installation kit, the unit can be easily installed, says the company, and removed without leaving a mark.
To minimise installation effort, RTX2000 is the best option, adds Dometic, with a maximum of 2,000W cooling capacity and low power consumption to ensure a silent night for drivers.

Meanwhile, Dometic’s Waeco division, which specialises in AC servicing, has extended its range of containers for the moisture-free storage of associated PAG oils and UV additives.
Waeco’s professional oil containers, filled with manufacturers’ oils and UV dyes, have been successfully used for several years, says Waeco, and it can now offer its vapour-tight containers to customers without a Waeco AC service unit.
“Using the new 150 ml cans of the professional oils system and the adapters developed by Waeco, it is now possible to attach the moisture-free storage containers to the service units of other manufacturers,” said the company.
Explaining the necessity of such a solution, Waeco refers to a study which revealed that not all oil and UV dye containers declared to be moisture-free truly are.
“Tests have shown that various competitor service units fitted with an allegedly moisture-free system absorb a considerable amount of moisture from the ambient air,” said the company.
When permissible water limits are exceeded, results can range from corrosion damage scenarios in vehicle AC systems to compressor damage on the vehicle, says Waeco.
“The new adapters are offered by Waeco for the most commonly used third party brands in order to ensure moisture-free storage of oils and UV additives on the service units of the company’s competitors, too.”
