ZF adds value with ADBs and brake chambers

ZF has outlined the advantages of its Maxx single-piston air disc brake (ADB) range, part of its wheel end solutions portfolio.

The company says over 8 million of its high-performance single-piston ADBs have been sold globally, with over 2 million proven in the field for the most demanding 30,000Nm heavy-duty applications.

The latest generation is said to offer up to 20 per cent performance improvement over the previous version. Further advantages cited include an exchangeable Plug&Play wear sensor which reduces maintenance and thereby costs, and improved safety thanks to optimal clearance with a bi-directional adjuster mechanism.

“Originally designed for the most demanding heavy-duty trucks, a comprehensive range of Maxx air disc brakes for all types and sizes of commercial vehicles has been added,” said ZF.

“The proven reliability of ZF single-piston technology allied to a compact and innovative design offers exceptional braking performance at a significantly lower weight than previous generations.”

The range fits all applications from 17.5 up to 22.5 inch rim size, and is said to offer consistently high performance even under extreme conditions, while the lightweight design offers payload and fuel economy benefits.

ZF also offers a service and spring brake chamber range for air disc and drum brake applications. Benefits are said to include reliable braking; longer lifespan due to corrosion protected parts; and premium quality due to rigorously tested high-grade materials. More than 70 million units have been sold worldwide.

The brake chamber technology is available in multiple variants comprising service brake chambers, piston type and double diaphragm spring brake chambers.

Available in a wide range of variants for air disc and drum brakes, Unistop reliably actuates the service brake ensuring the correct transmission of pressure, while a robust design is said to help maximise product life.

Tristop and Tristop D also enable parking and fail-safe braking functions. They are described as high quality piston and double diaphragm spring brakes with robust sealing and high inner component protection. Benefits include a piston type spring chamber for higher force transmission, and an Internal Breathing Valve (IBV) providing clean and dry air only.

The Tristop and Tristop D units are said to help maximise protection against exterior contaminants, maximise brake chamber life and vehicle uptime, and prevent corrosion on the parking spring thanks to a coil clash-free design.
