Hella launches multifunctional full LED rear light

Hella, the original equipment (OE) manufacturer and system supplier, offers a variety of lighting solutions for commercial vehicle applications to improve visibility and increase safety.

The company’s 24-volt full LED rear lamp units for trucks and trailers provide CV fleet operators with a synchronised rear direction indicator, says Hella, incorporating side marker lights that conform with the mandatory requirements for vehicles registered from January 2020. As such, they are said to be the perfect retrofit and replacement option.

“The slim and robust design fits perfectly to the rear of the unit and the full LED solution with innovative patented light curtain ensures functional safety via an integrated ballast unit conforming to DIN ISO 13207,” said the company.

“The trailer versions also incorporate an LED clearance light on a rubber arm as a further safety measure.

“The patented LED light curtain is particularly striking with a surface area of 144cm2 for the taillight and the reflex reflector behind it, as well as the dynamic direction indicator light and this large light surface, ensures optimal visibility and guarantees a high level of safety.”

The lamp is also exceptionally robust, Hella says, with its impact-resistant, two-colour polycarbonate lens bonded to the housing to achieve class IP 6K9K protection, which means that it is not only dustproof, but also impervious to high-pressure jet cleaners.

“With a size of 410 x 140mm and an installation depth of just 55.5mm, it is also extremely compact,” added the firm.

“The combination rear light can be retrofitted to older vehicles, if a corresponding extension to the approval has been granted for the vehicle and synchronisation of the direction indicator light is also possible with existing side marker lights, provided that the current consumption of the LED side marker lights does not exceed 24W.

“The lamps’ internal electronics also meet the highest standards with these high-performance LEDs delivering both a long lifespan and low power consumption.

“In addition, control for the flashing side marker lamps, direction indicator failure control and load simulation for the stop and direction indicator lights are integrated into the system, which ensures a high level of compatibility.”

Another advantage of the rear lamp is its future viability, says Hella, as it has a mechanical interface for sensor technology, meaning that ultrasonic sensors can be connected on both sides, for example.
