BPW to launch ePower axle at CV Show

Operators of temperature-controlled transport faced with a savage increase in fuel costs thanks to the switch to white diesel for fridge units taking effect this month will welcome the launch of BPW’s ePower axle at the Commercial Vehicle Show from 24–26 May at the NEC Birmingham.

Developed in conjunction with Thermo King, the axle incorporates generators that are actuated by the motion of the vehicle, removing the need for a separate internal combustion power source for the refrigeration unit.

Announcing the launch, a spokeswoman for BPW said: “ePower is a new axle module developed by the engineers at BPW that recovers energy when the trailer is moving, enabling a carbon-neutral and quiet supply of power to refrigeration units for temperature-controlled transport.

“Two generators are used to provide double the power and reliability. Intelligent energy management ensures that the cooling system always has access to sufficient battery reserves, even on long journeys or in traffic jams.

“ePower is the basis for the latest generation of refrigeration units from Thermo King. The overall system created by the two partners means that forthcoming vehicle bans and delivery restrictions can be avoided, resources can be conserved, and sustainability can be improved in the transport chain.”
