Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has recently added four new electric refuse vehicles its fleet, each equipped with tyre pressure monitoring and wheel loss safety systems to help ensure public safety.

The equipment was fitted by Creative Vehicle Wrapping (CVW), commercial vehicle wrapping specialists and distributors of Wheely-Safe technology for the waste and recycling sector.

BCP Council’s electric fleet is fitted with the intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which provides alerts for low pressures, high pressures, and fast leakage, as well as any increases in air temperature inside the tyre, which is often the first sign of an impending tyre blowout.

The vehicles are also equipped with wheel loss, brake and hub monitoring sensors, which deliver an in-motion alert in the event a loosening wheel nut is detected.

Jon Siviter, director at Creative Vehicle Wrapping (pictured), said: “A blown tyre or loose wheel can lead to catastrophic consequences and we recommended that BCP Council adopt this technology.

“Our team has in depth knowledge of waste and recycling vehicles gained from our experience in the waste management sector and wrapping commercial vehicles. We are therefore in a great position to introduce our customers to Wheely-Safe’s ground-breaking products.”

The electric refuse vehicles, which are powered by 100 per cent green electricity, will save between 30-40 tonnes of CO2 annually, helping the council to achieve its target to make its operations carbon neutral by 2030. To draw attention to the new zero emissions fleet CVW has wrapped the vehicles with the words ‘Powered by 100% green electricity’ in large letters.
