Equipment provider Motormax has been helping highway services provider Ringway Jacobs keep risk to minimum with the development of a bespoke road safety solution.

Motormax was approached by Ringway Jacobs in January last year. The initial challenge was to develop a system to assist with the deployment of traffic cones on motorways via the company’s latest traffic management vehicle, which had to be delivered in a short timescale. The bespoke Motormax design means that unless the tail lift is stowed away, the vehicle will not move.

Since meeting the original brief, Motormax has successfully gone on to work with Ringway Jacobs on various other elements of fleet safety. This includes a series of driver assistance alarms installed to the handbrake, seat belt and side door and live forward-facing cameras.

David Bonehill, head of fleet and plant at Ringway Jacobs, said: “Not only did we achieve the original brief, Motormax will now offer a range of cameras, warning systems and sensor systems across various vehicles within our fleet. All new vehicles will be fitted with a range of Motormax safety systems.

“Without Motormax’s pioneering safety system, our new traffic management vehicle could not have been commissioned into our fleet. Having worked very closely with Motormax, I would not hesitate to recommend them and I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future.”

Motormax installed a four-camera system, enabling safer vehicle manoeuvring, recording to a 1TB HDD. The monitor displays an image from the rear camera to assist the driver when in reverse, providing increased visibility.

The setup incorporates Live View DVR, a 7” mirror mounted monitor, and a 360 sensor system featuring monitor overlay with bespoke vehicle design.

Meanwhile, the Safetymax system means that customised warnings for visual and audio alerts can be created for many applications, including vehicle immobilisation where applicable. Safetymax ensures critical and potentially life-saving alerts are communicated clearly to drivers with timely warnings for them to act, says Motormax, feeding into mirror monitor and dash integrated solutions.
