Retailers reap fuelling benefits with Europump
Europump Maintenance supplies and provides service for the Jigsaw range of web-based fuel management systems, installing systems for a variety of commercial fuelling depots. Jigsaw systems can be installed as standalone terminals or retrofitted to an existing fuel pump.
The company has installed Jigsaw Eclipse 2 fuel management systems at 23 Asda Logistics Services depots throughout the UK. Over a six-month period, during a full refit of Asda’s distribution centres, Europump installed a combination of standalone terminals and terminals integrated onto the fuel pump.
John Rogerson, central fleet operations manager for Asda Logistics Services, says the system’s back-office technology is superior to most.
“The system is simple, provides leading real-time visibility of our fuel stocks across the country. Importantly it is user friendly and any support we need is at the end of a phone,” he said.
“The inherent flexibility of the Jigsaw system means it can be amended to make it work better for our transport teams.”
Asda Logistics Services wanted to integrate Jigsaw’s vehicle tag system with Asda’s Colleague ID cards to better monitor fuel consumption across the fleet.
“By incorporating driver smart card readers on the Jigsaw terminals, we are getting total transparency of all fuel transactions, which is essential,” John continued.
“Weekly reporting provides uptime, delivery, usage, and throughput data for all sites, as well as any abandoned transactions.”
Asda Logistics Services is also impressed with the level of training support provided by Jigsaw. “A fuel management system is only as good as the people using it, so we now have quarterly training reviews where Jigsaw provides refresher training online to upskill anyone that needs it.”
Jigsaw Eclipse fuel management systems were also installed at three Poundland depots – in Wigan, Harlow and Springvale (Wolverhampton) – with order to completion fulfilled within a tight timeframe of just four weeks.
In the initial discussion with Poundland, the Europump sales engineer gave Andy Rudge, distribution facilities manager at Poundland, a brief overview of the Jigsaw system compared to Poundland’s existing system, along with a five-year pricing comparison plan, which revealed that the Jigsaw will have paid for itself by year four.
Mike Hobson, technical manager at Europump, explained: “Poundland had three different sets of equipment; different makes and models all from different eras. With Jigsaw we were bringing them all in line plus one of the many benefits of the Jigsaw Eclipse is that you can re-use existing fobs so it saves money.”
Jigsaw highlights its status as one of the first companies to bring a web-based fuel management system to market. This means the terminals themselves aren’t complicated, it says, because all the programming is done through the website. When a driver connects his fob to a terminal, the terminal connects to the web server which will ensure that the tag is valid and will read the odometer and check the registration of the vehicle is correct.
