Following its diversification into general haulage eight years ago, GH Davies Farms of Shrewsbury has further expanded its tipper fleet this year with six new Fruehauf trailers.

In addition to hauling its own commodities, the company works for major grain merchants as well as local quarries. The trailers will cover an average of 120,000 kilometres per annum, delivering and collecting nationwide, although predominantly in England and Wales.

Today the company operates nine trucks and ten trailers, and the recent order of six are all replacements. The order was given to Fruehauf because they could guarantee quick delivery.

Harry Davies, owner of GH Davies Farms, commented: “They are all 70 cubic yard capacity trailers with a 12 inch dome. In addition, they all have power operated tailgates and easy sheet systems, everything to make the driver’s life easier.”

The company is moving away from ribbed sided tipping trailers to smooth sided, and early indications suggested that the change would yield fuel efficiency savings of 0.5 mpg minimum, but possibly as much as 0.7 mpg. The detailed specification includes a performance chassis, PM/VPG weighing systems, SAF disc axles and Durabrite wheels.
