Greenergy reports biodiesel trial success

Fuel supplier Greenergy has reported significant carbon emission reductions during its recent trial of B20 biodiesel.

A major manufacturer of biodiesel from wastes, Greenergy’s product offering includes higher percentage biodiesel blends, such as B20, which it began supplying to customers in 2018 on the Thames.

The company manufactures biodiesel from waste at its own facilities on Humberside and Teesside and in Amsterdam, and the biodiesel is blended into diesel to reduce emissions.

The trial of B20, part of Greenergy’s strategy to reduce emissions within its own operation, has seen an 11 per cent greenhouse gas saving compared to B7, equating to 56 tonnes CO2e saved per vehicle, along with improved miles per gallon (MPG) compared to the rest of the fleet.  With no increase in fuel costs or operational issues throughout the trial, Greenergy now plans to adopt B20 more broadly.

Caroline Lumbard, UK trading director at Greenergy, explained: “Customer service and supply reliability are central to Greenergy’s operations. As the industry looks at how it can reduce emissions, we are working with our customers to reduce their emissions today.  Our unique supply chain model, dedicated in-house haulage fleet and UK-based customer service team offer our customers supply security.”

Supported by its own in-house haulage operation, Greenergy Flexigrid, along with a 24/7 customer service team, Greenergy supplies from 25 terminals across UK and Ireland.

This unique combination gives the firm end-to-end control of its supply chain, it says, allowing control over both cost and service levels as it distributes renewable fuels at scale.
