Driver Hire in licence check warning
Recruitment services provider Driver Hire has urged operators not to overlook the importance of ensuring drivers have the correct licence credentials.
“Ensuring that your vehicles are regularly serviced, MOT tested and meet DVSA standards is only part of the compliance jigsaw for any business running a fleet of goods vehicles,” said the company.
“The other key element is checking that your drivers are equally compliant and have a correct, valid and appropriate licence to drive the vehicle their job requires – all of which means that having an efficient licence checking system is vital. One thing is for sure, a visual licence check isn’t a legal licence check.”
Driver Hire, which has around 100 offices nationwide and approximately 4,000 drivers on the road every day, says compliance is fundamental to its business too, and has developed the dh Licence Check service to assist in this process.
“For all the reasons above, our customers will expect that we’ve conducted thorough licence checking for all our drivers. dh Licence Check was developed to meet that need, as well as the needs of our customers.
“We understand first-hand that operators need an easy-to-use formal licence checking policy including a schedule that’s appropriate to the needs of your business. It’s got to be rigorous and one that won’t leave you and your business open to fraud. It means keeping records and creating an audit trail that shows every check carried out for each of your drivers.”
dh Licence Check makes this all easy, says the company.
“Our bespoke and intuitive system uses a direct and secure link to the DVLA database. You can get all the information you need instantly, saving time and energy in the process.
“We’ve invested in the latest technology so now there are five ways to get the driver’s declaration you need to do the DVLA check. With Snap Onboarding you simply take a picture of the licence on your smartphone, enabling the driver to complete the declaration online.
“Also available are eDeclaration, SMS declarations, pre-populated forms, and where required, it’s still possible to complete a paper form.”
Licence checking is part of Driver Hire’s suite of compliance and risk management services. To further ensure its clients and their drivers are fully compliant, Driver Hire Training offers licence acquisition, Driver CPC, Transport Management, FORS training as well as fleet analysis and compliance.
