Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) has been helping domestic appliance manufacturer Miele secure its low-emission transport operation through the development of a bespoke fleet of ID. Buzz Cargo vans, in conjunction with conversion partner Würth.

“With ULEZ-zones expanding, and the push to meet net zero by 2050 in response to the threat of climate change, businesses across the UK are looking at ways to update their fleets with all-electric (EV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) solutions,” said VWCV.

“The growing urgency of reducing on-road emissions when delivering products and services across the UK is now a key consideration, especially with the looming government target of banning combustion engine vans from 2030.

“Supporting businesses with this transition, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offer a high-quality, award-winning solution, for businesses who are searching for a premium, sustainable vehicle, with the ID. Buzz Cargo.”

Recently named International Van of the Year 2023, the all-electric van is built using sustainable components and materials. The manufacturer highlights its innovative technology and safety features, and a design aesthetic which balances the iconic Volkswagen face with futuristic accents.

“The ‘workhorse’ of the ID. Buzz family, the Cargo offers all-electric power with no compromise,” said the firm.

“Customers can choose between two trim levels that offer business-ready practicality, advanced connectivity, and driver assistance systems: Commerce and Commerce Plus, both fitted with a 77kWh (net capacity) lithium-ion battery and electric motor producing a power output of 204 PS and delivering an all-electric range of up to 256 miles.

“With a modern loading space design – possible due to its MEB platform – the new ID. Buzz Cargo can accommodate two Euro pallets loaded sideways, with an overall volume of up to 3.9m3. Likewise, with its powerful e-drive, trailer loads of up to 1,000 kg can also be easily attached to the optional trailer hitch.”

The ID. Buzz Cargo can be easily converted into a bespoke vehicle fit for specific customer requirements, says VWCV – such as in the case of Miele, which has been using Volkswagen vans since the early 1960s, when the company first started trading in Britain.

Earlier this year, VWCV delivered a fleet of customised all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo vans for customer service duties across Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Norway and Austria; the first five are now in use. This makes Miele one of the first customers to receive a specialist ID. Buzz Cargo that have been tailored to its needs.

The company’s wishlist of special features were implemented as part of a joint development process between Miele, Würth and VWCV.

“For instance, the payload of the Buzz Cargo has shelving systems that are designed to meet the requirements of service employees for stowing materials, replacement parts and tools. A centre console with an integrated folding table also serves as the driver’s workstation,” said the manufacturer.

“The new Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo vans enable Miele to offer low-emission transport, customised to help provide premium customer service.”
