VLT brake testers keep fleets rolling
VL Test Systems (VLT) has more than 60 years’ experience in the supply of vehicle testing equipment, and specialises in HGV and commercial roller brake testers.
The company’s roller brake testers (RBTs), which are designed, developed and manufactured at its purpose-built Netherlands factory, feature premium grade steel on the rollers; and new brake testers come with a five-year warranty on motors and gearboxes.
Its RBTs can test the braking systems of wheeled vehicles with axle load of up to 16,000kg (VLT 16733 models) or 20,000kg (VLT 20733 models). Testing can be carried out in both forward and reverse directions, for service, secondary, transmission and applied parking with opposite rotation (vehicles with fixed four-wheel drive).
“Our knowledge and expertise means that we have a roller brake tester solution for all test classes and we meet all DVSA requirements for ATF testing lanes,” said VLT.
“Our brake testers are built to last, with heavy duty high performance motors, heavy duty roller sets, and the sub frames and brake casings are hot dip galvanised to provide protection for life.”
The brake tester measures time lag, braking force, bind (drag), ovality and imbalance; and vehicle information is retrieved from the DVSA database whenever possible.
VLT can also supply wireless, DVSA-approved tachograph calibration add-ons for roller brake testers, said to be easy to use and to deliver precise measurements with maximum accuracy thanks to the use of a laser detector.
“The tacho add-on works with all types of tachograph, and calibration of a vehicle takes less than two minutes,” said VLT.
“With both brake testing and tachograph calibration in a single bay, you get more space in the workshop, and with no cables from the tester to the console it improves workshop health and safety.”
The company, which has a UK-wide team of specialist engineers, also offers a variety of associated products and services, including authorised testing facility (ATF) lanes, civil and installation works, service and calibration, and parts supply.
“Without doubt, our ATF lanes are amongst the best in the UK,” said the firm.
“Leading companies, Scania, Volvo, MAN and many independent hauliers have chosen VLT as their benchmark for full commercial test centres.
“All equipment is authorised by DVSA for testing and with the assistance of our technical sales team, we can assure you of not only a comprehensive choice of equipment to suit your needs, but a truly professional installation and step-by-step guidance to training on each particular equipment.
“Our installation team will not leave site until the customer is fully conversant and happy with the equipment installed.”
VLT has supplied equipment to numerous high-profile HGV and PSV fleet operators such as Asda, Biffa, Stagecoach and Tesco, and also works with the Ministry of Defence, servicing roller brake testers and other test equipment at many of its UK bases, as well as in overseas locations such as Afghanistan, Canada, Gibraltar and the Falklands.
To complement its brake testing equipment portfolio, VLT can also supply headlight beam testers, wheel play detectors, pit jacks and a variety of ATF equipment and tools.
