Striving for safety with Trakm8 video telematics
Technology provider Trakm8 has explained how video telematics systems, such as its RH600 4G integrated telematics camera, can significantly enhance fleet safety.
The RH600 4G camera provides live streaming and real-time monitoring capabilities. Fleet managers can remotely view the camera footage and monitor their vehicles in real-time. This allows them to identify any unsafe driving behaviours or incidents as they happen, says Trakm8, enabling prompt intervention and corrective action.
The telematics camera captures critical data on driver behaviour, including speeding, harsh braking, rapid acceleration, and aggressive manoeuvres. Fleet managers can review this data to identify risky driving patterns and take proactive measures to address them. By analysing driver behaviour, they can implement driver training programs to improve safety and reduce accidents.
In the event of an accident, the telematics camera captures video footage and other relevant data such as speed, GPS location, and impact force. This information can be invaluable for accident reconstruction, insurance claims, and legal purposes, adds Trakm8, whilst also providing an accurate account of the incident, allowing fleet managers to understand the cause and take appropriate steps to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Additionally, the camera footage acts as evidence in case of disputes or false claims, adds the company, and provides an objective record of events, helping to resolve conflicts and avoid fraudulent claims. This can potentially save the fleet company substantial time and money by preventing unnecessary legal battles and mitigating liability risks.
A further cited advantage of video telematics is that fleet managers can review recorded footage and provide constructive feedback to drivers, identifying areas where they may need additional training or coaching, such as improving following distances, lane discipline, or adherence to traffic rules. By providing personalised feedback, fleet managers can help drivers develop safer driving habits and reduce the likelihood of accidents.
The presence of a telematics camera in vehicles also acts as a deterrent to unsafe driving behaviours, points out Trakm8, meaning drivers are more likely to adhere to safe driving practices.
Nick Guise, marketing manager at Trakm8 (pictured, right), said: “The integration of video telematics cameras like the Trakm8’s RH600 can greatly enhance fleet safety by enabling real-time monitoring, behaviour analysis, accident reconstruction, dispute resolution, driver coaching, and deterrence of unsafe behaviour.
“By leveraging these capabilities, fleet managers can proactively address safety concerns, reduce accidents, and promote a safer driving culture within their fleets.”
