New eCanter production begins in Europe
Daimler Trucks has begun production of its new battery-electric Fuso eCanter truck in Tramagal, Portugal.
Revealed at the IAA Show last year, the new eCanter differs from its predecessor in important respects: rather than just a one-size fits all 7.5-tonner, the lightweight truck is now available with a choice of six wheelbases from 2,500 to 4,750 mm and permissible gross weights of 4.55 to 8.55 tonnes (taking advantage of derogations for alternatively-fuelled vehicles). Body/payload allowances go up to five tonnes.
Depending on the wheelbase, three different battery packs are available: S, M and L. The battery pack in the S variant has a nominal capacity of 41 kWh and a range of up to 70 kilometres. In the M variant, the nominal capacity is 83 kWh and the range is up to 140 kilometres. The L variant, offers a nominal capacity of 124 kWh and a range of up to 200 kilometres. This exceeds the normal daily range requirements of light distribution traffic, Fuso claims.
Judicious use of regenerative braking can increase the range even further, while at the same time minimising charging breaks.
