Krone highlights trailer axle advantages
Trailer manufacturer Krone has detailed the features and benefits of its trailer axle offering with drum and disc brake variants.
“No trailer that we are not 100 per cent sure of leaves our production facilities,” said Krone.
“Together with partners and research institutes, we have tested the Krone Trailer Axle under the most rigorous conditions – with success: our axles impress in every aspect.”
Highlighted benefits include low maintenance requirements.
“A check during your yearly general inspection suffices, and we provide a six-year guarantee on the Krone Trailer Axle with disc brakes, including no mileage limitation on the bearings and axle body,” said the firm.
The Krone Trailer Axle is available with disc brakes in 19.5” and 22.5”, with drum brakes in 420 x 180 mm as well as in 360 x 200 mm. The air spring units are designed for the brake variants of all Krone trailers. The bolted version of the axle lift (Twinlift) can be easily retrofitted.
“In addition to the tried and tested axles for the road, Krone also offers a reinforced version. We optimally equip your trailer, completely in line with the demands of your day-to-day transport.
“Additionally, the axle stands out with its maintenance-friendly design,” said Krone.
“Bellows that can be replaced without using special tools as well as a quick and easy change of brake discs without having to remove the wheel bearing enable brake service within a very short period of time.
“On the drum brake axles, the brakes are particularly quick and simple to remove thanks to the encapsulated bearing system used. The track setting on the axle can be adjusted effortlessly and in a manner that saves time through the eccentric discs.”
The Krone Trailer Axle with disc brakes is said to be robust and durable; zinc-phosphated and cathodic dip-coated surfaces are protected against corrosion and are more resistant to impact.
The axle casing is particularly sturdy, says Krone, thanks to the friction welding process used.
“This gives you the best possible design to cope with the bending and torsion stresses as well as the highest protection against axle fractures.”
Meanwhile, the special single-tappet mechanism removes the risk of angled wear.
“Thanks to the continuous ring-shaped rim system, forces are optimally distributed to the rim, helping to prevent rim rupture and wheel bolt fracture,” added the firm.
“Thanks to the innovative design, there is more space between the brake disc and the maintenance-free wheel bearing unit. This ensures a controlled heat transmission and increases the service life of all components…
“The geometry of the brake disc is optimally adapted to daily requirements. It enables a long service life, safe implementation and reliable service: The hub flange made from one casting without hubcap prevents errors when changing the brake discs, since the wheel bearing unit does not have to be dismantled.”
Meanwhile, the Krone Trailer Axle with drum brakes is said to offer quality, efficiency, and long service life due to a solid, durable axle casing.
“High-quality materials and special annealing of the axle stub are the roots of an axle on which you can fully and completely rely,” said Krone.
“The innovative sealing system primarily protects the bearings from external influences. Clamp rings hold the bearings in the hub when changing the brake pads. This optimises component protection against contamination and damage. An encapsulated bearing unit facilitates maintenance and service…
“The bearings are optimally pre-adjusted at the factory so that they achieve the highest possible service life and the settings ensure minimum stress to the bearings. This also has a positive influence on the service life of the axle.”
