Keeping tarpaulins secure with Welwyn tools
Welwyn Tool Group, which distributes Leister welding equipment in the UK, has highlighted the vehicle security benefits of its product range.
The company offers a portfolio of welding devices that can help fleets protect cargo from theft, as well as for the production and repair of truck tarpaulins.

“Truck tarpaulin covers need to be made for secure fitting coverage to keep goods safe during long distance travelling, as well as being versatile and durable, protecting cargo from weather conditions and preventing theft.
“Truck tarpaulin material is generally made of durable, weather resistant PVC, which is flame-retardant, robust and tear resistant. Truck tarpaulins must be welded in a durable and secure manner, to ensure a long lifespan and safe storage of the goods to be transported. With a range of welding machines and hot air blowers from Leister, commercial vehicles are optimally and efficiently equipped with suitable tarpaulins.”
The Leister range includes the Variant T1, said to be an excellent tool for welding tarp with a reliable and sturdy design tailored for professional use.
“This welding machine has been designed with everything in mind for working with tarpaulin. Capable of welding at an outstanding top speed of up to 18 metres (59 feet) per minute, the Variant T1’s compact and slim design, along with its robust build, ensures you can produce smooth, high-quality welds again and again with ease,” said the company.
“In addition to a long tarpaulin lifespan, anti-theft protection is also important. Truck tarpaulins can be cut open almost silently with a knife, allowing cargo to be stolen unnoticed by the driver. However, if the tarpaulin is reinforced with ‘anti-vandalism bands’, theft is harder.
“The Variant T1 tape welding machine is perfect for welding reinforcement and tamper-proof tapes on truck tarpaulins. Thanks to the ‘e-drive’ operating concept, setting the relevant welding parameters couldn’t be easier. The tape delivery system and guide rollers direct the tape under the pressure roller, keeping it taut right up to the last bit.”
Also available is the benchtop mounted Hemtek ST welding machine, which welds hems on tarpaulins from start to finish in one welding process, and is said to be ideal for tarpaulins made of PVC, PE, PP, and other thermoplastics.
