Keeping tabs on fleets with VT Connect
Vehicle safety equipment specialist Vision Techniques has outlined the security advantages of its VT Connect web-based fleet management platform.

Cited benefits of the VT Connect fleet management platform include an intuitive interface which allows users to track their vehicles live and retrospectively as well as delve into in-depth vehicle and fleet analysis.
“This information gives you real-time data updating regularly with changes in speed, distance and direction,” said the firm.
“Integration is also possible with almost all Vision Techniques equipment, with a modular approach to give you a comprehensive and all round view of your vehicles and fleet without information overload.
“And not only does it have many safety features allowing for vehicle and driving performance to be monitored, it also has a range of security features such as jamming detection, immobilisation, unplug detection, towing detection and geofence alerts.”
The jamming detection feature allows Vision Techniques’ system to identify and alert the owner via SMS or email if an attempted theft using signal jamming is detected.
As part of the system, jamming detection outputs can also be enabled to link to external alarms to further hinder and deter thefts.
VT Connect also offers vehicle immobilisation in various forms, from basic driver identification via Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Dallas key or keypad to more complex integration with VT IDent Plus, which offers the added benefit of anti-rollaway.
The VT Connect system can also detect if the tracker or telemetry device has been tampered with, unplugged or wires cut. If this is the case, VT Connect will immediately notify the vehicle/fleet owner.
As part of the system, vehicle/fleet owners can also be instantly notified if there is a suspicion that the vehicle is being towed, regardless of the ignition being on or off.
As part of the towing detection, owners can also enable an output which can link to an external alarm to further hinder or deter unauthorised towing.
Additionally, manual or automatic geofences can be set. When a vehicle arrives at a location, VT Connect will create a geofence of a preset radius around the vehicle. When the vehicle leaves said radius, the vehicle/fleet owner will be instantly notified to identify any unauthorised use of the vehicle.
“These are just some of our active security features but our VT Connect system also offers security all day everyday with tracking, so you know where your vehicles are and where they have been,” added Vision Techniques.
“VT Connect also allows owners to view and track selected vehicles or groups of vehicles in their own window, receive information on fuel consumption and traffic information, set maintenance and service reminders to reduce cost and downtime, customisation of reports with tailored screen presentations and filter access to feature department or division with simple-to-create data fields.
“Owners can also set and monitor KPIs and visually display them to improve business performance.”
In terms of installation, a small unobtrusive box is fitted to the vehicle. To get users up and running, Vision Techniques will arrange comprehensive training and full technical support.
