Clever coupling from Jost GB

Technology provider Jost GB has highlighted the benefits of its automatic coupling system, KKS, which it says continues to revolutionise the coupling process.

“Technology within the haulage industry continues to develop and evolve and Jost has their fingers on the pulse when it comes to bringing the latest and most innovative products to the marketplace,” said the company.

It adds that the tried-and-tested components of KKS – which include the JSK 42 fifth wheel coupling, the Modul E-Drive landing gear, SKS, sensors, King Pin Finder (KPF) and LubeTronic – form a complete system which no longer requires the driver to climb, crank or plug.

“The driver is guided through the fifth-wheel process and with the help of the sensors and the KPF, they receive live information about the coupling status on the KKS remote control in the driver‘s cab at any time,” said Jost GB.

“Furthermore, the driver can operate the landing gear and fifth wheel coupling locking mechanism from the cab, significantly reducing the coupling duration and number of times needed to get in and out of the cab.

“The KKS makes all the physically demanding tasks of the coupling process a thing of the past, as well as ensuring that this process is no longer dependent on the weather or time of day and significantly reducing stress.”

With the KPF, says Jost, users have a complete coupling aid with imaging from a connected camera; all of which has safety and convenience standards that satisfy the very latest ECE R55 and ECE R10 requirements.

“Providing the driver of the vehicle with a helpful visual aid during the coupling process, the system gives driver assistance to find the ‘optimum engagement point’ –  this is the optimum position of the tractor unit relative to the semi-trailer, for safe and collision-free coupling,” added the company.

“The central, integrated camera local in the fifth wheel coupling offers a perfect view of the kingpin, semi-trailer and all other surroundings to the rear of the vehicle.”
