Amber lighting expertise from Forvia Hella

Forvia Hella has emphasised the crucial safety role that amber warning lighting plays on commercial and works vehicle fleets, and says its Special Original Equipment (SOE) division is continuing to innovate and widen its product offering in this area.

“Amber lighting has proven to be one of the most effective optical warning systems when applied on vehicles and plant machinery,” said Spencer Grinham, SOE sales director at Forvia Hella.

“As a result, Forvia Hella SOE produces an array of amber lighting products, including corner modules, light bars and beacons.”

Prominent amber light products from Forvia Hella SOE include the Corner Module 270, a special wide angle warning light, as well as the Micro/Mini Light Bar and the K-LED Nano and K-LED Rebelution beacons.

Wide visibility is key, says the company, and the way that a light is fitted has a major impact on its effectiveness. While its Corner Module 270 comprises a set of two modules, it is approved as a half bar and has been designed so these can be integrated into the vehicle body or mounted on top by using a bracket.

“The Corner Module 270 provides an alternative to conventional beacons,” said Spencer. “Its two modules illuminate an area of at least 270° as far as 20 metres from the vehicle.”

There are legal requirements to be observed when the elements are integrated into the vehicle body.

“The modules must be positioned at an angle of 45° to the driving direction of the vehicle.”

Turning to the Micro/Mini Lightbar, Spencer said: “Together these generate a 360° warning signal and combine a flashing and rotating signal in one product.”

These can be screw-fixed directly to a vehicle, connected via a bracket, or attached with a magnet.

“The Micro/Mini Lightbar is available with either a clear or amber lens, but the built-in LEDs, and therefore also the warning signal, for both design variants are amber.”

Beacons are also popular with operators, says the firm. The entry-level beacon from Forvia Hella SOE comes in the form of the K-LED Nano.

“This traditional, on-off easy-to-use product is deployed primarily on agricultural and small maintenance vehicles,” said Spencer, “such as road sweepers, to complement light bars.”

Moving up to its premium beacon offering, the K-LED Rebelution beacon emits light through a circumferential, ring-shaped light band.

“The flashing variant of the K-LED Rebelution generates an unmissable double-flash signal,” said Spencer, “producing a 360° warning effect that is especially suitable for use at high speeds. The intense flashing signal is also noticed outside the direct line of sight, guaranteeing an early warning of danger.”

As part of Forvia Hella SOE’s bespoke offering to customers, it is also possible to incorporate a logo and customise the colour of the housing.

Both beacons are submersible, can be power washed or steam cleaned and offer the highest-level electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) classification 5, which indicates how well devices operate without causing, or being affected by, electromagnetic interference (EMI).
