New CheckedSafe features bring fleets added benefits

Multi-award-winning fleet management and compliance platform CheckedSafe is expanding its portfolio of services with a new GB Domestic Hours App, which is designed to inform drivers and operators of infringements as they happen.

“Drivers of goods vehicles operating under GB Domestic Regulations have a legal requirement to maintain records of the hours worked,” said the company.

“If you drive a goods vehicle or a bus or coach you must follow the rules on how many hours you can drive and the breaks you need to take.”

The new software is said to ensure users are legal and compliant with drivers’ hours legislation and the Working Time Directive, while removing the need for keeping paper records. Driver fatigue and rest periods are managed with notifications, while managers can check drivers’ hours records and data within a single dashboard.

“We believe that we are the first company in the UK to do this,” said CheckedSafe.

“It’s a highly complex area but also very exciting and again a huge industry gamechanger. Most companies still record data on paper in the W20 books or similar so the move to digital is a huge leap forward.”

The company also launched its Driver Licence Checks Service last year, and had its first audit this year.

“The auditors told us that we are the only company offering remote licence checking, wherein we read the data on the driving licence by taking a picture of it and parse the data. The makes the whole process fully remote,” said the firm.

The system allows licence checks to be conducted remotely via a direct link to the DVLA, on a pay-as-you-go basis, using optical character recognition technology with an accuracy rate of over 95 per cent.

At-risk drivers can easily be identified, and managers can stay informed of any new offences and create custom data-points and alerts. The ability to use the software remotely makes it ideal for businesses with dispersed workforces, says CheckedSafe.

Among CheckedSafe’s key features is the ability to perform vehicle walkaround checks via the App, and the firm has recently secured an agreement with Pendle Borough Council which will see all private hire and hackney carriages issued with licences in the borough be required to undertake daily walkaround checks using the CheckedSafe software.

“This is to improve the standards of the vehicles, and importantly it is backed up with the imposition of sanctions if checks are not undertaken or undertaken properly,” said CheckedSafe.

“The importance of this change cannot be overstated. We have been advocating for some time for all such vehicles to be subject to a pre-use daily walkaround check and now Pendle Council have taken the bold move of mandating the same. We anticipate that other local authorities will watch this with interest and hopefully follow suit.”
