Shell unveils first HGV charging site in UK
Shell Commercial Road Transport has recently launched its first public charging location for electric trucks in the UK – accessible via the Shell Card – thereby expanding its European network.
The company launched Shell Recharge last month at the Shell Markham Moor Truck Stop in Nottinghamshire, bringing its public charging offer for heavy-duty vehicles to the United Kingdom and providing fleet customers with a convenient charging solution.
Shell Markham Moor is situated roughly 25 miles south of Doncaster and 25 miles Southeast of Sheffield adjacent to the A1.
With more than 8,000 heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) passing daily, it is said to be a critical transport artery connecting major cities and regions across the UK. Shell acquired the site, which is located at Main Street, Markham Moor, Retford, in 2022.
With the addition of a 400kW charge point designed for HGVs, says Shell, the destination hub becomes even more important for this evolving sector.
Euan Moir, head of UK Fleet Solutions, said: “The future of commercial road transport will look mostly electric. That electric future is already coming to fruition in the UK. Providing a seamless charging experience for drivers at Shell Markham Moor is another step in helping transport companies continue to operate efficiently during the energy transition.”
The charge point at Shell Markham Moor Truck Stop is enhanced with a user-friendly reservation system, says the company, which allows fleets to guarantee the availability of chargers and to reliably plan and schedule stops, reducing driver downtime, making it easier than ever for the logistic and transport segment to embrace electric mobility.
The location also includes a café and 24/7 access to several amenities, so drivers can recharge themselves whilst they recharge their vehicle. Facilities include guarded truck parking in the evenings, a convenience shop accessible via a walkway, toilets and showers.
The site is equipped with one charging station, providing up to 400kWhs, with two connectors, ultimately allowing more than one vehicle to be charging with up to 200khs at the same time.
The Shell Recharge app allows customers to monitor and manage their charging sessions with ease, offering real-time charging status, and route planning.
The Shell Recharge charger at Shell Markham Moor is powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity.
“Shell Recharge is part of Shell’s commitment to providing cleaner energy solutions for the future,” said the company.
“With a focus on electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Shell Recharge aims to make lower carbon mobility accessible and convenient for drivers around the world.”
The Shell Card provides fleet drivers with access to a single payment solution for all their mobility and refuelling requirements, with just one card and one invoice.
